Compounds are:Compounds are 2 or more elements that have been bonded together. The 2 main types of bonds that hold them together are ionic and covalent bonds. Ionic compounds are when electrons are donated from one atom to another and covalent compounds are when atoms share electrons.
Explanation/Notes:Compound's Bonds are built and broken down by chemical forces. Physical forces cannot break down compounds. When elements become compounds they join together and loose individual traits. Compounds also have a definite ratio. They are a pure substance and there smallest particle is the molecule.
Everyday Example:An example is when chlorine and sodium combine to form NaCl (salt). The compound they create is completely different from the original elements. Another example is when 2 hydrogen combine with 1 oxygen to form H2O (water).
